Challenges:

  • During mobilisation, a deck reinforcement was performed by installing additional under-deck stiffeners (not exceeding a total weight of five metric tonnes) and a spooling platform
  • Installation of shim-plates was prepared for the accommodation of the carousel. In-house naval architects specialising in structural engineering sourced the proper location on deck for shim-plates, and also designed and calculated their height
  • SAIPEM installed an empty carousel weighing 516 metric tonnes, together with all other required equipment onboard the vessel
  • In Newcastle a total of 1641.4 metric tonnes of product was spooled onto the carousel. The total weight of the carousal and product on deck was 2204 metric tonnes
  • Upon arrival at the Port of Lagos, the vessel went into double banking with the SAIPEM installation vessel “NORMAND MAXIMUS” to unspool the products from the carousel
  • In Lagos, HHL Lagos’s cranes were used to transfer a products termination head between the two vessels to discharge the reels
